Anagama / Train Kiln Unloading

  • Salem Art Works 19 Cary Lane Salem, NY, 12865 United States

At the core of SAW’s ceramics program is the communal exploration of the wood-fired surface. The wood-fired surface requires a crew of artists to labor with a kiln and to explore as a team. It is as much about the experience as the ceramics that are being fired.

Saw will be unloading it’s large wood kiln on July 16th. The ceramic art will be taken out of the kiln piece by piece and carefully studied and discussed to help firers and potters further understand the wood fire process. The few hundred pieces will be laid out in the grass around the kiln for observation and to record this specific firing.

Due to the nature of this art form the exact time for unloading can not be predicted in advance but the afternoon is likely a good time to stop by.
