Forty/Sixty Trio

Forty/sixty is an adventurous, young string trio dedicated to new music and founded out of a desire to perform new works, bring improvisation to the concert stage, and use music as a vehicle for social commentary and change. Bassist Robin Rhodes, cellist Olivia Harris, and  violinist Angela Lamb met at the Next Festival of Emerging Artists,where late nigh improv sessions led to the creation of the trio. Forty/sixty actively commissions new works, collaborates across mediums with fellow artists, and seeks ways to keep their music relevant in the social and political spheres. Through powerful performance and cross collaboration in a diverse array of venues, forty/sixty strives to push the boundaries of the traditional concert experience.

Member Bios

Angela Lamb, violin

Violinist Angela Lamb is a fierce and passionate musician equally at home playing Bach on the concert stage to improvising in a bar. She is an advocate for new music and loves the excitement and discovery of learning a work hot off the press. An avid chamber and solo musician,Angela frequently performs in solo and chamber recitals. In March 2012, Angela soloed with her sister, Kathleen, on the Bach DoubleViolin Concerto with the St. Croix Valley Orchestra.

Angela is currently pursuing a Certificate in Orchestral Studies at the Lamont School of Music where she studies with Yumi Hwang-Williams. She received her Masters at The Hartt School where she studied with Katie Lansdale and graduated summa cum laude from Lawrence University where she studied with Wen-Lei Gu. Angela lives in Denver and loves running, hiking, camping, and reading in her spare time. She has a fascination for Ancient Egypt and likes to spend time with her two cats, Gus and Mae-Mae.

Olivia Harris, cello

Cellist Olivia J. P. Harris is a spirited young musician dedicated to the performance, instruction, and growth of new music. Olivia is an enthusiastic chamber musician, and is a member of the piano trio Awarā, as well as of new music ensemble, forty/sixty. Also a lover of popular music, Olivia has performed alongside artists such as Styx, Jon Anderson, Mike Garson, Candido, and most recently, Swedish pop star, Veronica Maggio. Olivia began her studies in her hometown of Cleveland, Ohio. She is a graduate of CIM Prep, holds a Bachelor in Music Performance from The Hartt School where she studied with Mihai Tetel, and a Professional Performer’s Certificate which she completed at the University of Massachusetts Amherst under the guidance of Astrid Schween. Olivia lives and works in New York City, and enjoys cooking, collecting vintage LPs, hiking, and reading in her free time.

Robin Rhodes, bass

Robin Rhodes is a bassist committed to playing and expanding the boundaries of New Art Music. Robin performs in many styles including Classical, Jazz, Folk, Indie- Rock, and Free Improvisation at a variety of venues such as Symphony Hall, Kennedy Center, Jordan Hall, Sanders Theater, Signature Theatre, and Blues Alley, but also enjoys intimate concert settings in coffee shops, bars, restaurants, and homes.

Robin holds a Masters degree in Modern American Music from Longy School of Music of Bard College where he became dedicated to teaching artistry and El Sistema-inspired music education. Robin also loves politics, history, biking, and breakfast.
