Dear SAW Friend,

I hope this letter finds you well.  My previous correspondence notified you of the changes that were taking place at Salem Art Works; we were going to a new business operating model that would have SAW open primarily during the summer months.  Much planning has been taking place for the upcoming summer, including class scheduling and preparing the grounds.  We also have three artists in residency for 12 weeks this summer who will perform general maintenance around the campus in exchange for living accommodations and use of the Welding Bay and Blacksmithing studios.  They will also be teaching classes.

We also wanted to share some exciting news! SAW received $40K from the State of New York for operating costs.  This is the fourth consecutive year SAW has received such a generous grant.  SAW has also an agreement with artist Guadaloupe Maravilla and Creative Time to perform a major work of art.  From mid-September through November 2025, they will be working to make a sculpture out of a former school bus in the back side of Barn 2.  A fascinating project!

All this good news leads me to the Annual Support Campaign.  This year, more than ever, we need your support.  No donation is too small! Social media and Mailchimp will be our only means of appeal this year. We are not planning a stamped mailing campaign due to the cost and donation returns from these mailings. Please see the button below to make a donation.

Thank you,

Anthony Cafritz
