Two-Day Bioplastics & Moldmaking Workshop
Two-Day Bioplastics & Moldmaking Workshop
Join us for a two-day immersive bioplastic workshop where creativity meets sustainable material innovation!
On the first day, we’ll dive into making agar agar-based bioplastics and agar agar foam, learning how to cast these mixtures into sheets and molds. A guided nature walk will invite participants to collect botanicals - like leaves, flowers, and seeds - which will be embedded into the bioplastics. We’ll explore how ingredient ratios affect flexibility, transparency, and texture, setting the stage for a range of artistic and practical applications.
On day two, we’ll cut and demold the cured bioplastic and foam pieces, experimenting with their form, strength, and versatility. We’ll also look at an inspiring selection of alternative material samples and share recipes for creating kombucha SCOBY leather, and gelatin-based bioplastics. Through demonstrations and discussion, participants will gain insight into the science behind these materials and their potential in design and art. This workshop offers a hands-on introduction to sustainable material-making, blending natural processes with experimentation and creativity.
