Family Residency

About

For an artist who is also a parent, it is hard to find the time and space to create. There are so many tasks each day to complete before one can dedicate what's needed creatively to be an artist in their studio.

The family residency gives parents the opportunity to take advantage of the studios at Salem Art Works to support the creation of new work. In tandem with Salem Teen Arts; a program designed especially for teens to develop their artistic skills, connect with art, create ideas, and meet other young people, you will have the opportunity to work on your own art on campus while your children are busy creating work of their own.

This residency supports all sides of the family unit in the development of their artistic dreams. Not only will this give the parents a unique block of time to grow personally in their practice but also to share the experience together with their children. A unique and unforgettable memory for all.

Salem Art Works invites families to come and develop their work during a two-week residency at our beautiful 119-acre former dairy farm turned artist residency situated in eastern Washington County, NY end of July for one or two weeks.

A teen must be enrolled in Salem Teen Arts to qualify a family to stay at SAW.

Families can prepare their own meals or opt into our meal plan with options for vegetarian, dairy-free, and gluten-free. Reservations are required in advance to participate in the meal plan.

For parents who are artists, there are several studios available for rent furnished with a table, chair, easel, shelves, wall space, access to electricity, and basic lighting. Artists should plan to bring everything they need to complete their projects. Restrictions apply during Salem Teen Arts to all the shops with teen workshops scheduled. There will be no evening assistance available.  Artists will be responsible for materials and shop consumables.
