Spooky Silhouettes w/ Luke Claymon
Spooky Silhouettes w/ Luke Claymon
Participants will use an overhead projector to trace their design on 4 square feet of 1/16” steel plate- students will have a 4'x4' or 2'x8' steel plate to work with. Designs are cut out using oxygen/acetylene torches and/or plasma cutters. Edges are finished with angle grinders and files. The complexity of designs and desired finish will determine how much work goes into each silhouette.
A single large design or several smaller ones may be chosen. Participants may provide their own patterns or pick from a selection provided (spooky lawn cats, skulls, and jack-o'lanterns are just a few of the possibilities).
Steel silhouettes can be finished with paint or left to a rust patina. Silhouettes can be made to hang on a wall or spiked in the ground for year-round enjoyment.
Students must wear closed-toed shoes, have hair tied, a hat or bandana (recommended), and long pants. Wear natural-fibered clothing- synthetic fabrics can melt and catch fire when exposed to heat.
